GRANGEFIELD Old Boys made comfortable progress in the Yorkshire Old Boys' Shield, with the Yorkshire Amateur League Premier Division's bottom club defeating Division Three opponents Leeds Modernians 10-3.

Visitors Mods did not surrender meekly, however, their goals coming from Alan Fowler (2) and Stu Astall.

The clash between Championship Division side Drighlington and Premier Division outfit Alwoodley was postponed due to fog.

In the league, third-placed Farsley Celtic drew 1-1 at fourth-placed Stanley United in the Premier Division.

United dominated the opening 45 minutes and took the lead but the roles were reversed after the interval, with leading scorer Danny Lyons getting Celtic's equaliser after 70 minutes.

Calverley United, who have taken only one point from their last six games, went down 4-0 at Wortley in the Championship Division and are now third from bottom.

It is a different story for St Bede's, however, in Division One. Despite arriving late, starting slowly and finishing with only nine fit men, they won 4-2 at Garforth Rangers to go fourth and are serious challengers to the teams above them.

Nick Scullion got the Bradford club's first goal and man of the match Jarad Peltier's corner then resulted in an own goal.

By now, Bede's had two players injured and no more substitutes. Nathan Bailey had to stay on the field despite being injured but it was a good job he did as he scored a 25-yarder with his only working leg.

Rangers reduced the arrears but Scullion netted a penalty to make the match safe before the hosts replied again when Jason Davits' crossfield pass never left the turf, taking eight of his Bede's team-mates out of the game for Garforth to score again.

Gildersome Spurs Old Boys climbed to second, two points behind Leeds Independent, after a 4-2 victory at Farsley Celtic Reserves, who took the lead in the second minute via Nick Bray.

Gildersome went 4-1 ahead before Danny Kemp replied in the 67th minute as Celtic dropped from second to fifth.

Second-bottom Grangefield Old Boys Reserves, who have only won one from eight, lost 2-1 in a disappointing display at Leeds Medics & Dentists Thirds.

League newcomers Idle are up to second in Division Two after a 5-2 home win over fellow promotion contenders Leeds City Old Boys.

Idle led 2-1 at half-time with goals from the prolific Aaron Irving and Jack Strudwick, with Irving completing his hat-trick in the second half, when Adam Meadley also netted.

Fairbank United, who won 4-2 at Leeds City Old Boys, have climbed to fifth in Division Three.

Zaakir Ahmed put the visitors ahead at the far post but the Old Boys responded well to equalise and should have taken the lead before United made it 3-1 via Shoaib Hussain and an own goal.

Leeds City scored a penalty after a late challenge by Usman Amir but Bilal Saleem then netted for Fairbank with a penalty to seal the points.

Noel Hynes (2), James Wilby (2) and Ryan Rhodes were on target for Drighlington Reserves in a 5-0 victory at Dewsbury Rangers Reserves – but they remain second from bottom in Division Five, albeit with games in hand on all but one of the clubs above them.

St Bede's Reserves, the only club below Drighlington Reserves, notched their first win of the season with a 3-1 home triumph over Methley United.

Mick Dougan put the Bradford hosts ahead and although United equalised in the second half, Scott Best and Anthony Reardon wrapped up the points for Bede's.
