DRIGHLINGTON were comfortable 5-1 winners at neighbours Gildersome Spurs OB in the Wheatley Cup on an all-weather pitch.

The interval score was 1-1, Sam Thorpe netting with a volley from a corner supplied by Josh Frankland while Conor Firth replied for Spurs.

Second-half goals for Drighlington came from leading scorer Shane Sowden (2), Brett Thompson and Joe Hirst.

With the remaining three Wheatley Cup ties being postponed, Drighlington will have to wait patiently to learn their semi-final opponents.

Yorkshire Amateur League domestic action saw Farnley Sports win 3-1 at Trinity OB in the Premier Division.

The game was effectively over by half-time, with man of the match John Darke netting in the 24th and 31st minutes from the spot and with a 20-yard volley. A 41st-minute strike by Joe Cryer gave his side a 3-0 advantage.

Trinity showed a massive improvement in the second half and Stevie Travers' late header reduced the arrears.

In Division One, St Bede's thumped Horsforth St Margaret's 3-0 and rose to fifth after a fourth victory from six matches.

St Margaret's are fourth with a near identical record to Saints, save for having a marginally better goal difference. On target for St Bede's were Adeeb, Neil Murray and player-manager Ty Akram.

St Bede's Reserves are not faring as well and lost 5-3 at home to mid-table Norristhorpe Reserves in Division Five, their eighth defeat from nine matches after winning promotion.

Goals by Brad Wild and Dan Sullivan got Norristhorpe up and running and Saints were not helped by having a man sent off for a second yellow card.

They overcame this handicap to surge 3-2 up through Michael Dougan (2) and Anthony Reardon but ran out of steam and, after an own goal made it 3-3 at the break, the visitors pulled clear through Chris Roome and Gav Saville.
