WYKE Wanderers extended their unbeaten West Yorkshire League run to ten matches as they defeated Swillington Saints 4-2.

In a tough Division One encounter, third-bottom Swillington were awarded a penalty but they failed to convert it, although they did take the lead shortly afterwards.

Karl Fawcett equalised for Wyke but Swillington restored their lead, while Wanderers began to dominate but could not convert their chances.

Sibu Moyo finally steadied Wyke's nerves before Fawcett added a brace to complete his hat-trick.

More chances fell to Wyke duo Cameron Day and Fawcett but again they could not take them, although the victory left their side third in the table.

Wyke secretary Dave Ryan said: "Our win was soured when Joe Entwhistle suffered a serious ankle injury. This is the third player from our club to suffer a bad injury this season."

Field have slipped to sixth in the Premier Division following the postponement of their match against Shelley due to a waterlogged pitch at Hollingwood Lane.

Baildon Trinity Athletic lost 1-0 at home to third-placed Rothwell in Division Two.

Both sides were competitive in the early stages as tackles flew in, looking to assert their authority.

Baildon striker Ben Craven posed the main threat to Rothwell as he created a couple of half-chances.

Yet it was the visitors who took the lead after 20 minutes with a shot that took a few awkward bounces before going through the hands of goalkeeper Danny Milner.

Fourth-bottom Baildon came close to equalising through an Elliot Moody free-kick plus a couple of Will Hawksworth headers from set-pieces.

The second half was again well contested and Rothwell could have increased their lead when Steve Sample conceded a penalty but the spot-kick was missed.

Rothwell played out the last five minutes with ten men but Baildon were frustrated that, despite numerous chances, they could not get themselves level.

Wyke Wanderers Reserves battled to a 2-2 draw in their Alliance Division One clash at high-flying Leeds City Reserves.

Wanderers defended well and scored a breakaway goal when a great run saw Joe Sagar score with a header.

Wyke continued to keep their shape and the ever-willing Jamie Underdown put them 2-0 ahead when he chipped the oncoming goalkeeper.

With ten minutes remaining, Leeds pulled a goal back and with two minutes to go they broke the defiant Wyke team with a 20-yard shot to secure a point.

There were some outstanding performances from all the Wyke players but Declan O'Regan was given the man of the match award.

Field Reserves climbed to third in the table above Leeds City after a 3-1 victory at East End Park Reserves, with Jack Webster (2) and Tom Ponter netting the key goals.
