PAPERWORK and disciplinary hearings seem certain after Grangefield Old Boys' second-round Leeds & District FA Saturday Senior Cup tie against Beechwood Gate was abandoned in the second half.

The Yorkshire Amateur League Premier Division side were leading the Wakefield League front-runners 6-1 at the time in a game of three red cards.

It is believed the straw that broke the camel's back in a game of misdemeanours was that two of the dismissed players were asked to leave the touchline but refused.

Players were better behaved in the Heavy Woollen & District FA's Wheatley Cup, where Division One side Gildersome Spurs Old Boys won a surprisingly one-sided contest 5-1 at home to Morley Town, who hold a 100 per cent five-match record in the Championship Division.

Ben Keedy (2), Mike Hall (2) and Conor Firth were on target for Spurs, with Jovan Kioseff replying.

There was more fortune for Morley's league rivals Drighlington, who won 4-0 at West Yorkshire League Division One outfit Thornhill.

Joe Hirst, Brett Thompson, Josh Frankland and Sam Thorpe bagged the visitors' goals but the margin should have been greater.

The biggest shock in the league programme was defending Premier Division champions Farsley Celtic Juniors' 3-2 defeat at Beeston Juniors, who thus claimed their first win of the season.

"Certain players need to look at their performances," said Farsley's manager after the game as he looked back on his team's first failure this season.

"On the balance of play and chances, we thought it should have been a draw, but Beeston are a good side and will hold their own."

Louis Surtees (penalty) and Said Osman scored Celtic's equalisers but they were also thwarted by Beeston's goalkeeper.

Stand-in striker Chris Coates netted twice for Calverley in their 2-2 draw at home to new leaders Collingham Old Boys in the Championship Division but were grateful that the visitors, who equalised with four minutes left, also missed a penalty.

Grangefield Old Boys' Reserves also made heads turn in Division One, breaking their duck and moving out of the bottom two with a 4-1 victory at promotion challengers Huddersfield YMCA.

Horsforth St Margaret's went top with a 3-2 victory at Farsley Celtic Juniors Reserves, courtesy of goals by James Watson (2) and Jake Williams.

Idle climbed to second in Division Two after a 6-4 victory over fifth-placed visitors Wheelwright Old Boys, with the strikes coming from the in-form Arran Irving (3), Ryan Mitchell (2) and Adam Medley.

In Division Five, St Bede's Reserves missed a penalty in their 1-0 defeat at home to Shire Academics Thirds.

Ryan Rhodes netted for Drighlington Reserves in a 2-2 draw at home to Dewsbury Rangers Reserves, with their other effort being an own goal.
