DEFENSIVE mistakes proved costly as Wyke Wanderers came away from Old Centralians with a 3-3 draw in Division One of the West Yorkshire League.

Wyke looked to be heading for a comfortable victory when Karl Fawcett scored with a penalty after ten minutes but a mix-up led to an equaliser for Centralians.

Wanderers went ahead again through Fawcett's second goal, only for Centralians to equalise once more – before they went in front for the first time, with defensive errors again to blame.

The visitors rallied when Matt Conway put them level and Wyke secretary Dave Ryan said: "Only desperate defending from Centralians stopped Wyke from running away with the game. But it finished level, much to the disappointment of our players."

Field travelled to Knaresborough Town and defeated them 3-1 in the Premier Division.

Field went ahead after 15 minutes through Darryl Leach following a corner but Knaresborough levelled five minutes before half-time.

Aidan Day restored the lead for Field and the same played sealed the points with his second goal.

Field are now third in the table, just three points behind leaders Carlton Athletic but they have played a game more.

The Division Two match between Baildon Trinity Athletic and Kellingley Welfare was postponed because the assigned referee did not turn up.

Ben Baker was the scorer for Field Reserves in their 5-1 home defeat to Beeston St Anthony's Reserves in Alliance Division One, while Wyke Wanderers Reserves lost 3-1 at home to Oxenhope Recreation Reserves.

In an even first half, a fine four-man move finished with a great left-foot shot into the bottom corner of the net from Harrison Levy to put Wyke ahead.

A mix-up 20 minutes into the second half saw the ball rebound from a defender to pull Oxenhope level.

Wyke's heads went down and their opponents scored twice more to wrap up the game, with a lack of experience the difference between the sides.
