ST NICHOLAS won a thrilling Marflitt Trophy clash with St Bede's in a game of saints and sinners.

The Yorkshire Amateur League rivals served up a contest full of passion and debating points, with St Nicholas eventually emerging 6-3 winners after the 90 minutes had finished 2-2.

Self-discipline was lacking at times for St Nicks, who scored through Ryan Brough (2), Joshua Moon, Kwame Westerman, Michael Sharp and a Jonathan Davis penalty.

Young Tawheed Ahmed's trickery earned a spot-kick which he scored for St Bede's and Saul Peltier doubled their lead before St Nicks hit back.

Ty Akram scored their third in extra-time but two late goals gave the final winning margin a slightly flattering look.

Drighlington beat Garforth Rangers 2-1 in another first-round game. Headers from Joe Hirst and Ben Small were enough for Drig, who also hit the bar three times, with Dale Regan replying.

Ash Crooks scored and was then sent off for a poor challenge as Premier Division outfit Farnley Sports won 4-2 at Gildersome Spurs.

Jimmy Offlow (2) and a 45-yarder from Dave Walker netted for Drig, with Conor Firth and Danny Phillips on target for the hosts.

Division One leaders Leeds Independent gave a good account of themselves in a 3-1 loss to Premier side Grangefield OB.

Ryan O'Donnell put Indy ahead but Chris Cairns quickly restored parity. An unstoppable volley from Glen Austwick and cheeky back-flick by Christian Dacre earned the visitors the win.

Championship side Calverley United were underwhelmed despite winning 4-0 at Trinity OB, with Chris Coates, Jake Smith, Rob Nicholson and Jordan Williams their marksmen.

Liam Copland (2) and Chris Lee steered Farnley Sports Reserves to a 3-2 win over Beeston Juniors in the Hancock Cup, while Fairbank United won 5-3 at Harrogate St Margaret's Reserves.

Mahmadu Kante (2), Omar Kante, Asim Hussain and Hassan Iqbal saw off the Division Four leaders.

Farsley Celtic made it six wins on the bounce in the Premier Division with a 5-0 success against Wigton Moor.

Joe Firth edged the Celts in front before four goals in the final 15 minutes through a Craig Farrand double, Danny Lyons and Ryan Collett.

Leeds Medics III beat Farsley Celtic Juniors Reserves 4-2, while Idle of Division Two suffered their first loss of the season against Ealandians Reserves.

Idle went down 3-2 after heroics from 16-year-old visiting keeper Tom Thornton, although Arron Irving did score past him twice.

Drighlington Reserves survived a late flurry from St Bede's Reserves to win 5-4 in Division Five – their first victory.

Anthony Thompson, a Jack Priestley penalty, Kieran Boulton (2) and Charlie Leather scored for Drig. The Bede's efforts came from Karl Best's double, Asif Khan and an own goal.
