SHANE Gaunt scored twice as Farnley Sports edged past Gildersome Spurs Old Boys 3-2 in the Yorkshire Old Boys Shield preliminary round.

Farnley started well with two first-half goals for Gaunt and a reply from Mike Hall.

Jacob Scott levelled matters in the 65th minute only for Adam Horner to strike the winner two minutes later as Farnley booked a tie against North Leeds.

Farsley Celtic Juniors won 7-0 at St Bede's with goals from Louis Surtees (3), Joe Firth (2) and Danny Lyons (2). Farsley have an interesting tie at Stanningley OB in the second round.

Drighlington won 7-1 at Trinity OB with goals from Josh Frankland (4), Shane Sowden, Ben Small and Joe Hirst. Drighlington play Collegians next.

Yorkshire Amateur League action saw Grangefield OB lose 3-2 at home to Alwoodley in the Premier Division, their goals coming from Matt Tomlinson and Glen Austwick.

Calverley United lost 4-2 at home to Thornesians in the Championship, while Old Batelians claimed a 4-3 home win over Grangefield OB Reserves to record their first Division One success of the campaign.

Batelians' goals came from a brace apiece by Milo Brown and Rob Johnson. This setback was the third out of three for Grangefield, with Kev Brown netting twice and Tom Needham once.

Farsley Celtic Reserves won 5-0 at Rothwell with two goals apiece from Ben Wilson and Steven Wells and one by 16-year-old Loz Patterson.

Debutants Mitch Lofthouse and Jonny Routledge were outstanding in the heart of defence and, back from his summer break, Pops Ogunpinde had an excellent game in centre midfield.

In Division Two, Idle beat Lepton Highlanders 5-1 with strikes from Ryan Mitchell (2), Arron Irving, Tom Simonett and an own goal.

Fairbank United were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Huddersfield Amateur in a listless Division Three display which saw Hussain Iqbal and Mahmado Kante find the net.

Farnley Sports Reserves won 2-0 at Churwell Lions to claim their first points of the season.

In Division Five, Drighlington Reserves lost 3-0 at home to Garforth Crusaders. Nevertheless, Drighlington gave the leaders their toughest game so far this season in very windy conditions.

St Bede's Reserves lost 4-2 at Woodkirk Valley Reserves, with their replies coming from Nathan Speight and Scott Best.
