THE Marflitt Trophy Final saw Farsley Celtic Juniors win 3-2 at Stanningley OB at Liversedge FC.

Farsley went ahead from a looped header by Craig Farrand but Shane Thompson nodded in an equaliser midway through the half.

In the 43rd minute, Stanningley deservedly took a 2-1 lead when the outstanding James Allen headed home at the near post.

Farsley were awarded a penalty in the 50th minute after a mistimed challenge by the Stanningley keeper.

The penalty was taken by Farrand, whose left foot shot was parried by Luke Clifford diving to his left with Craig's right boot steering the rebound over the bar.

Farsley began to control midfield but it was a defensive error that set Joe Firth and Louis Surtees free to run in on goal with Joe Firth supplying the finishing touch to restore parity with the Stanningley keeper stranded.

A sweetly-timed shot from man of the match and skipper Farrand from 25 yards was slightly deflected to enable Farsley to retake the lead with 13 minutes to go.

Victory was a just reward for manager Barry Thirsk and his son and Farsley coach Adam, with Gareth Rennard applauded for reaching the Marflitt Final in his first season as Stanningley manager.

In the Premier Division, Farsley Celtic Juniors won 3-0 at Grangefield OB with goals from Danny Lyons, Sam Bradley and Craig Farrand.
