FIELD suffered a setback in their quest to be crowned Premier Division champions as they suffered a rare West Yorkshire League defeat, losing 4-2 at third-placed Carlton Athletic.
The Field players found themselves a goal behind after only five minutes but Aidan Day equalised 15 minutes later to make it 1-1 at half-time.
Glyn Hirst edged Field ahead but Athletic drew level with a penalty after Levi Pedder's foul inside the area.
Field went behind and then conceded a fourth goal when caught pushing forward as they searched for a way back into the match.
Field are still top of the table but now lead by only a point from Beeston St Anthony's and two points over Carlton.
Wyke Wanderers remain rooted to the basement following a 4-2 defeat at home to St Anthony's.
Good work saw Wyke given a penalty on the half-hour mark but Ian Horrocks' powerful shot went wide – and Beeston then went ahead from a corner.
Undaunted, Wanderers pushed on and created several chances but good defending from the title challengers kept the score 1-0 at the break.
Beeston scored another two goals after the interval but Wyke battled on and secretary Dave Ryan said: "Overall we gave a great display with very good performances from every player and especially 16-year-old Sibu Mayo, who was outstanding."
Tom Ponter grabbed a hat-trick for Field Reserves in their 6-0 demolition of Wyke Wanderers Reserves in Alliance Division One. The other scorers were Daniel Laban, Kieran Suddards and Jack Webster.
