BEN Bedford scored a spectacular winner as Drighlington Reserves triumphed 2-1 at Huddersfield Amateur in Division Five of the Yorkshire Amateur League.

Huddersfield took the lead as Chris Roy, one of their former players, shanked a clearance into his own net after a shot rebounded off Drig keeper Tom Farrar.

Drig drew level in the second half with a drive from the edge of the box into the bottom corner from Jordan Brereton.

But with ten minutes to go, Drig took the lead when Bedford pulled a diagonal ball down with one touch and volleyed into the top corner with his second.

Amateur had a couple of chances to equalise late on but Farrar kept them at bay.

Meanwhile, Fairbank United won 2-1 at Aimbry in round three of the West Riding County FA Challenge Trophy.

Fairbank had to make numerous changes to their starting 11 due to absences and conceding an early goal served as a jolt to the system.

Aimbry had the chance to go further ahead in the opening half hour as Fairbank struggled to settle.

But as the game wore on, Fairbank slowly gained a foothold ,with Junaid Ali's trickery causing the Aimbry defence all sorts of problems while Irfan Khan began to dominate the midfield.

The introduction of Bahlal Saleem into midfield at half-time changed the game, allowing Fairbank to dictate the majority of play, yet despite this they were unable to create many clear chances.

Two strong penalty appeals were waved away by the referee as Fairbank pressed for the equaliser and, with 20 minutes remaining, they were awarded a free-kick 35 yards out.

Irfan Khan's shot slipped out of the grasp of the Aimbry keeper, allowing Shoaib Hussain – on his return to first-team action – to tap home from two yards out.

The goal deflated the opposition and Fairbank went for the jugular. A speculative kick from goalkeeper Haris Butt fell over the head of the centre half, allowing Shoaib Hussain to run through and convert with ten minutes remaining.

Fairbank then held on to secure passage through to the fourth round, where they will face either Rolls Reserves or Slaithwaite United.

Ealandians won 6-1 at Campion Reserves in the third round, with Thornton United beating Morley Town Thirds by the same score.
