WHITBURN Athletic, who have twice been on the right side of narrow victories in high-scoring Spen Valley League matches this season, have finally fallen the wrong side of the ledger.
Athletic, who were 4-3 winners at Salthorn and 6-5 victors over visitors Savile Youth, lost 5-4 at home to Girlington, also in the Premier Division.
Adeeb Jawad (2), Shoaib Javed, Mohammed Qasim and Saad Abbas were on target for third-placed Girlington, who tend to come out on top in close encounters and have now scored five goals in a game in half their ten matches this season.
Jordan Curtis (2), Sohail Mahmood and Callum Pollard replied for ninth-placed Athletic.
Pacesetters Savile Youth won 4-0 at home to tenth-placed Idle after goals from Shahid Patel (3) and Imran Patel.
Faisal Khan deserves some sympathy in the Spen Valley Memorial Trophy for Division One clubs.
He bagged all four goals for Drummond but they went down 9-4 at home to Mount Pleasant, for whom Saif Akbar netted five.
Braces were the order of the day in Howden Clough's clash with Inter Batley, with Dom Carr netting twice for Clough only for Awaab Ahmed and Ziyad Rawat to do likewise as visitors Inter won 4-2.
