STANNINGLEY Old Boys have a fine knockout pedigree and even not having a manager could prevent them from defeating visitors Farnley Sports 3-0 in the second round of the West Riding County FA Challenge Cup.

John Darke, Tom Stewart and James Allen were the scorers and below-par Yorkshire Amateur League leaders Sports were never in the hunt at their fifth-placed Premier Division rivals.

Farsley Celtic Juniors, who are second in the top flight, are also through to the third round via a similar scoreline over visiting Ripon City.

Louis Surtees headed home an Alex Reid cross and Paul Dockerty doubled Celtic's lead with a shot from ten yards, Chad Morris completing a comfortable triumph following a long run down the right.

Grangefield Old Boys found Lower Hopton's goalkeeper in superb form and could not capitalise either when the visitors had a man dismissed for making contact with the referee.

The West Riding County Amateur League side went ahead after two minutes, Andy Kenyon levelling on the half-hour mark, after which Lower Hopton's keeper took centre stage.

The gloveman made a series of magnificent saves, four of which were top drawer after deflections.

Lower Hopton went ahead just before half-time but did not seal victory until the final ten minutes, with 4-1 being a very misleading scoreline.

Drighlington put 11 goals past Bardsey in the West Riding County FA Challenge Trophy, strikes coming from Shane Sowden (3), Josh Sheldrake (2), Brett Thompson (2), Sam Thorpe (2), John Kitchen and Joe Hirst, with Thompson missing a penalty before his brace.

Match of the day, however, was Farsley Celtic Juniors Reserves' 3-2 defeat at Leeds City Reserves. All the goals came in the second half, with City netting in the 47th, 48th and 53rd minutes.

Celtic were given hope by a 75th-minute own goal and a Steve Wells strike ten minutes later – and they should have taken the game to penalties but paid the price for those earlier shoddy seven minutes.

St Bede's lost leading scorer Jordan Northin towards the end of the first half with what looked to be a serious knee injury against visitors AFC Junction.

However, although Matty Proctor put the Bradford club ahead, they missed chances to put the tie to bed and paid the price when dominant Junction scored twice in five minutes after the break.

Jamal Nash did equalise but Bede's ended up losing the penalty shoot-out 5-4.

Division Three outfit Fairbank United hosted Drighlington Reserves of Division Five on the 3G pitch at Dixons Academy – but went behind on the half-hour to an Anthony Thompson goal, the scorer possibly being offside.

Shoaib Hussain equalised on the stroke of half-time but, despite clearly being the better team, United had to wait until the 85th minute for their winner, Naveed Khan netting after Irfan Khan had split the second string's defence.

In the league, sixth-placed St Bede's Reserves lost 4-3 at Leeds Modernians Reserves, who moved up to third in Division Six. Kev Benson, Kris Balodis and Antony Garner were Saints' marksmen.
