BRADFORD City welcome neighbours Huddersfield Town to Eccleshill tomorrow for what could be a typically tense derby encounter in the FA Women's Premier League.

Both sides certainly have something to prove after their disappointments last weekend.

City saw a six-match winning run come to an abrupt halt with a 3-1 defeat at Newcastle United while Town lost 2-0 at home to a previously pointless Guiseley Vixens.

At Newcastle, there was an initial setback when the home side took the lead three minutes before half-time but City's player of the match Sarah Danby levelled with 20 minutes to go.

A point looked possible until Newcastle struck twice in the last three minutes to secure the points.

Guiseley showed they were beginning to find their feet in the top flight following promotion and were on the front foot from the outset when Nadine Bates headed over early in the game.

Then, in the 15th minute, a superb corner from Kerrie Zserdicky-Shirt went in off a Town player to give Guiseley a lead that was then increased in the 35th minute with a swerving 25-yard effort from left back Shelley James.

Some stern defending ensured the second half remained goalless and Guiseley had duly avenged their heavy home defeat by Town earlier in the season, but they could find it tougher against tomorrow's visitors Blackburn Rovers.

In the reserve division, City were also playing Newcastle and they ran out impressive 3-2 winners.

Siobhan Jones twice gave the visitors the lead and City twice levelled through Amanda Ellsworth, whose hat-trick goal on the hour clinched victory.

It was League Cup day in the West Riding League and there was disappointment for Premier Division Bradford Park Avenue, who crashed out 5-2 at First Division promotion chasers Battyeford Belles.

A goal from Nat Bell ensured Avenue turned round 1-1 at the break but an own goal was their only second half reward as the home side eased through to the next round.

Bradford City A had a walkover as opponents Castleford White Rose reserves withdrew from the competition.

They will now meet Brighouse Athletic, who also went through after Skipton Town withdrew.

Elsewhere, Dewsbury Rangers crashed 10-1 at Republica Internationale, while Farsley Celtic and Ossett Town also had walkovers.

Tomorrow sees key clashes in the First Division as leaders Bradford City A go to third-placed Battyeford and unbeaten second-placed Silsden are at home to Ilkley Town.

In the Premier Division, it is much the same – joint leaders Ossett Town and Brighouse Athletic clash, and Bradford Park Avenue are at home to Hemsworth in only their third league game of the season.
