WYKE Wanderers were pushed every inch of their way in their 1-0 win against Otley Town in the West Yorkshire League.

It was a close Premier Division contest but Wanderers had the better of the first half and went close on a number of occasions.

Ian Horrocks led the line well, with Ben Bodle and Karl Fawcett causing problems out wide on the wings, but the second half was a more even affair.

The all-important goal came on 80 minutes when a superb curling free-kick from Carlton Reid saw man-of-the-match Gavin Turner greet the ball with a diving header into the bottom corner.

Otley came close to equalising but Wyke's defence held firm.

Meanwhile, Field maintained their one-point lead at the summit of the top-flight table following their 1-0 win against Wetherby Athletic.

John Penn scored the winning goal and the same player had chances to grab a hat-trick but could not take them.

Barry Dunne, Field's assistant manager, said: "Wetherby came for a draw and, to be fair, they did it well, so we had to work hard for our win."

Baildon Trinity Athletic slumped to a 6-0 defeat at Aberford Albion in Division One.

Athletic started the match with new goalkeeper Steve Sample and he made five good saves to keep Aberford at bay after they dominated the first half.

But Albion then scored six goals in 30 minutes to run out easy winners.

Baildon spokesman Mick Haran said: "Our debutant goalkeeper had a fine match but he was let down by the outfield players' lack of fitness and very poor defending."

Wyke Wanderers suffered a heavy 7-1 loss at Leeds City Reserves in Alliance Division One.

Leeds City had a very good and experienced team and it showed as they took a 3-0 half-time lead.

Joe Ratcliffe scored for Wyke but they tired late in the game and conceded another four goals.

Robert Gumbley and Jack Webster were on target for Field Reserves in their 4-2 defeat at Horbury Town Reserves in Alliance Division One.
