BOTH managers were preparing a list of penalty takers as Grangefield United's second-round Leeds & District FA Saturday Senior Cup tie at Leeds Medics & Dentists neared the end of extra-time.

However, the spot-kick lottery was not needed in what was an excellent match superbly refereed by Wayne Niles.

Man of the match Matty Tomlinson jinked past two players and sublimely chipped the Medics keeper from a narrow angle to break the deadlock, and then set up Andy Kenyon for the second from the edge of the 18-yard box.

Grangefield Old Boys Reserves' Leeds & District FA Saturday Cup second-round tie at Amaranth Reserves also went to extra-time but there was no joy for the visitors, quarter-finalists last season, as Amaranth's second string won 4-0.

There were also internal cup matches in the Yorkshire Amateur League, and St Bede's Reserves caused a minor upset in the first round of the Hancock Cup, defeating Woodkirk Valley Reserves 3-0.

Division Six St Bede's' goals against their Division Five visitors came from Kalum Davey (2) and Kristops Balodis.

There was no joy, however, for Bede's' first team, who lost 5-2 at Rothwell Reserves in Division One, Collis Robinson and Andrew Scullion netting for the Bradford club, who only started playing in the second half.

They dropped to fourth, while Calverley United moved up to third on the back of a 3-1 home win over Garforth Rangers.

United played uphill first and went in front in the 24th minute when Tom Kitson scored from Rob Nicholson's swift exchange of passes following keeper Ben Waller's punt.

Kitson bagged their second eight minutes later from 17-year-old Alex Bannam's cross but United lost their shape in the second half and only regained it when substitute Thomas Atkin netted a neat third.

Leaders Farsley Celtic Juniors Reserves were on it from the kick-off in Division Two at fourth-placed Morley Town Reserves, Steve Wells heading home a Sam Ford cross after a minute.

Will Hicks made it 2-0 by bundling home a Chad Morris corner at the near post but, after Town had replied, Celtic regained the initiative in the second half, Danny Lyons netting.

The hosts made it 3-2 but then had a player dismissed, Josh Sanz-Carvell and Wells, who now has 16 goals, scoring for the visitors, who thus made it six wins from six matches.

Second are Gildersome Spurs Old Boys, who won 7-3 at Old Centralians to make it five from five wins, with the goals conceded tally rising to five.

Appropriately, Mike Hall led the way with five goals to take his tally to 13, James Wilby and James Bradd also netting against the second-from-bottom hosts.

Fairbank United, who were in command at half-time, are third in Division Three after their 3-2 defeat at home to new leaders Ealandians Reserves.

United got the only goals of the first half via Zeeshan Khan and a brilliant free-kick by Hassan Iqbal but they were left rueing later missed chances.
