NORTH East Regional Women's League Premier Division runners-up Brighouse Town Ladies have added another cup to their trophy cabinet.

Already Southern League Cup winners, they defeated Blyth Town 2-1 in the final of the North East Regional League Cup with a last-minute winner in front of a large crowd at Wilberfoss Sports & Social Club in York.

However, despite dominating the first period, Rob Mitchell's Brighouse were unable to make the breakthrough from a flurry of chances.

A lack of rhythm and concentration and misplaced passes didn't help but, despite Amy Hesselden and Chloe Roberts coming on at half-time for Brighouse, Blyth started the second half the brighter and took the lead.

Brighouse pressed for an equaliser and mounted wave after wave of attacks and, with Blyth tiring and wasting time, Brighouse's player of the year Claire Needham levelled from Kayleigh Bamforth's superb pass with six minutes left, although Blyth's keeper did misjudge the shot.

The West Yorkshire side then pressed for the winner, which came when Aleathia Smith's corner was flicked on by player of the match Emma Dobson to Rachael White, who stretched to fire into the top corner.

* Brighouse Town are holding an open day on Sunday at The Dual Seal Stadium for all girls aged from 15 to 19 (2pm).

They are also holding open trials there on Sunday, June 14 (11am) and Wednesday, June 17 (7.30pm).
