BRADFORD City have been handed an unexpected chance to nick third place in the FA Women's Premier League (North).

Their game with title-chasing Coventry City was washed out last week and has been rearranged for next Sunday at Thackley.

Victory then could seal third position – but that will depend on Huddersfield Town first winning at home to Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday.

Blackburn's late slide has coincided with Coventry being hit with a six-point deduction to turn the whole title race on its head.

Instead of the three-way chase, a one-horse race has emerged, with Sheffield now needing only a point from their last two games to win the championship.

A win for Town on Tuesday would see City clinch that third place on goal difference if they can beat Coventry in their final outing.

In the Reserve Division's Northern Section, title winners Bradford saw their final game against Leeds washed out and, with neither side having anything to play for, a rearrangement has not yet been made.

The City A team, winners of Division Two in the West Riding Women's League, gave a good account of themselves in the Shield final against Division One opponents Altofts.

But with the game having finished 2-2 after extra time, American girl Katelyn Wiater and Abi Thompson scoring for City, the game went to penalties and City lost 4-3.

There are no City games tomorrow but head coach Steve Winterburn will be wanting to keep the side together in preparation for next week's finale.

Meanwhile, Brighouse Town secured runners-up spot in the North East Regional League Premier Division by winning at Whitley Bay.

It finished 2-0 to Town thanks to goals from Amy Hesselden and Rachael White.
