FARSLEY Celtic Juniors have done all they can to secure the Yorkshire Amateur League championship.

In their final Premier Division game, they recovered from a goal down to win 3-1 at Leeds Medics & Dentists and must now wait and see if Ealandians can gather the six points they need from their three remaining matches to pip the leaders.

Medics, who have finished fifth after a shocking start to the season, went ahead after dominating the first half-hour. But Tom Ormondroyd levelled in the 37th minute after good work by Luke Kitson and Louis Surtees took advantage of slack defending from a free-kick seven minutes later to put Juniors 2-1 up.

Medics ended the game with ten men after suffering an injury having used all three of their substitutes and Surtees capped Farsley's victory with an opportunist goal in the 75th minute.

Holders Grangefield Old Boys won the dress rehearsal for tomorrow's Marflitt Trophy final at Liversedge FC by defeating visitors Alwoodley 3-1.

Having fallen behind, the old boys responded with first-half goals from Tom Hall and Grant Jackson and, following a serious dressing down at half-time, they won the second half 1-0 thanks to substitute Andy Kenyon's 75th-minute strike.

Struggling Calverley United's scheduled match at Championship Division title-winners New Farnley was not played as neither club's ground was available, so it will be held on Friday at New Farnley Cricket Club.

Relegation-threatened Gildersome Spurs Old Boys lost 4-2 at home to sixth-placed Garforth Rangers in Division One, with James Hardcastle and Conor Firth scoring after the hosts had gone 3-0 down.

Gildersome are propping up the table, while St Bede's – who are two places and four points better off with two matches left – lost 7-1 at St Nicholas.

Bede's could not back up their superb midweek victory at Sandal Wanderers, Kinsley Hall getting the consolation goal.

The Bede's team, who have in-form Almondburians and Grangefield Old Boys Reserves to play, may well be reliant on the results of rivals-in-distress Leeds Medics & Dentists III and Spurs Old Boys.

Grangefield Old Boys Reserves, who have already won the Hancock Cup and reached the quarter-finals of the Leeds & District FA Cup, will finish in mid-table, which is a remarkable achievement as they only won two of their first ten league matches.

The old boys drew their latest match 3-3 at Almondburians, with Grangefield's Josh Spencer crossing for Dan Cuff to make it 1-1 before half-time.

Almondburians then went 3-1 ahead before George Charleton was an unlikely scorer from a Spencer corner, with Charleton's cross then being netted by skipper Darren Dodsworth late on to seal a point.
