GRANGEFIELD Old Boys Reserves have retained the Yorkshire Amateur League's Hancock Cup.

They beat Morley Town Reserves 3-1 in the final at Liversedge FC – and Grangefield goalkeeper Ross Monaghan was a key figure.

His wind-assisted clearance was allowed to bounce in the tenth minute and Sam Russell put the Old Boys ahead.

Monaghan then thwarted Morley with a series of superb saves before Town defender Danny Sims was sent off for lashing out.

The Old Boys keeper is their regular penalty-taker and scored the spot-kick to make it 2-0 – and it was soon 3-0 when Tom Carlisle headed home a free-kick.

Jermaine Savoury's spectacular volley reduced the arrears to 3-1 before Grangefield skipper Darren Dodsworth was also dismissed for lashing out.

But Chris Cairns dropped back into defence to snuff out Morley's attacking threat and it was their keeper Scott Sanderson who was tested more severely in what was an excellent final.

Calverley United faced five first-teamers when they visited Stanningley Old Boys Reserves in the Championship Division but won 3-1 to boost their chances of avoiding relegation.

Chris Holdsworth and Gary Trewhitt (penalty) put United 2-0 in front before Rob Nicholson halved the deficit.

Jake Smith restored the two-goal cushion, although third-bottom United are still in danger of being overtaken by old Modernians and Thornesians.

St Bede's have had a shocking week in Division One, following up a 5-1 defeat at home to leaders Alwoodley Reserves with a 3-0 setback against visitors Grangefield Old Boys Reserves.

The Bradford club are third from bottom with four games left but must are grateful that Leeds Medics & Dentists Thirds and Gildersome Spurs Old Boys are not picking up any points either.

Spurs lost 2-1 at home to Alwoodley Reserves to make it four straight losses, Jordan Brereton netting the Old Boys' goal from 35 yards.

* The Yorkshire Amateur League, who included four players from St Bede's – Jordan Farrell, Nathan Bailey, Tom Mozley and Chris Battelle – drew their under-21 inter-league match 3-3 with Amateur Football Combination London but lost 2-0 in a below-par penalty shoot-out.

Man of the match Joe Hill and Martin Devine put the Yorkshire Amateur League 2-0 ahead when they had a strong wind at their backs.

But they conceded three goals in five minutes in the second half before the diminutive Amir Ameen used his strength to equalise.
