PREMIER Division leaders Farsley Celtic Juniors stepped up their Yorkshire Amateur League title challenge with a 3-1 win at mid-table Alwoodley.

Farsley were outstanding for the first 20 minutes and generally played some of their best football of the season against a strong host outfit.

Andy Cooper opened the scoring and although Alwoodley drew level through Graham Shaw, further strikes by John Mallinson and Luke Gordon pulled Farsley clear.

They remain top on goal difference from Huddersfield Amateur, who have played a game more, but unbeaten Ealandians remain the main threat. They are 11 points behind but have five matches in hand.

Huddersfield Amateur stayed in contention with a 4-3 win at Grangefield Old Boys, who slipped to fourth place as Chris Dennison (penalty), Sam Halstead, Chris Binks and an own goal tipped the balance.

Runaway Championship table-toppers Farnley Sports made it 16 wins from as many matches with a 4-2 home success against Leeds Medics & Dentists Reserves, which guaranteed promotion to the top flight.

Adam Butterworth and Barrie Danby made it 2-0 to Farnley at the interval and although Medics pulled back to 2-1 and 3-2, Sports maintained their 100 per cent record with further strikes by Ash Crooks and Danby's second.

Calverley United made it two successive wins as they edged out sixth-placed visitors Morley Town 1-0 thanks to Will Hardcastle's goal, although the second-bottom side still face a battle to avoid relegation.

St Bede's enhanced their hopes of climbing off the foot of Division One with a morale-boosting 4-1 home win over third-bottom Gildersome Spurs OB Reserves.

Youngsters Nathaniel Dobson (2) and Nathan Bailey led the way, with a Collis Robinson screamer adding a flourish to the rare Bede's triumph.

Grangefield OB Reserves reached their second Hancock Cup final in two years as substitute Chris Pearson grabbed the goal that knocked out Huddersfield Amateur Reserves 1-0.

Division Two promotion favourites Wortley swamped bottom side St Bede's Reserves 8-0, although it was only 1-0 at half-time. Tom Bailey (3) and Ben Fox (2) led the way.

Ben Wilson scored twice as Division Three leaders Farsley Celtic Juniors Reserves marched on with a 7-3 win over Bainbridge, who had needed the points to retain their own promotion hopes.
