MUCH-travelled Des Hazel, who is a St Kitts and Nevis international and also played in Australia, is holding an open evening at Beckfoot School on Monday (6-8.30pm) to scout for teenage talent.

The 47-year-old ex-Bradford Boys player played a total of 274 games as a professional for Rotherham United, Sheffield Wednesday, Grimsby Town and Chesterfield.

Hazel is seeking 16 to 18-year-olds for his BTEC Level Three extended diploma scholarship course at Marley Stadium in Keighley that prepares pupils for a future in coaching in soccer or other sports.

Identical courses are run at Craven College and Thomas Danby College in Leeds but the advantage of this course is that it is closer to Bradford.

It is worth up to three A Levels and allows access to university, as well as opening the door to coaching up to Level One.

Well-known local football coach and talent scout Andy Gaughan said: "I have been in consultation with Des for a number of seasons to try to establish something a little closer to town.

"This will be run from Marley using their classrooms and the aim of the course is to ensure that learners are fully prepared for the future.

"I personally endorse Des and the work he does and would recommend any 16 to 18-year-old who is considering a future in sport to at least attend the open evening."
