TITLE-chasing Farsley Celtic Juniors showed the happy knack of winning when not playing well to keep the pressure on Premier Division top dogs Huddersfield Amateur in the Yorkshire Amateur League.

Luke Gordon got the only goal for Juniors in their victory at fourth-placed Grangefield on a tricky pitc, and the winners now trail Amateur by just three points with two games in hand.

However, Ealandians – who are nine points behind the leaders with six games in hand – remain the greatest threat.

Stanningley Old Boys won 2-1 at Trinity Old Boys thanks to a Joe Ward brace, Stevie Travers having equalised. But although eighth-placed Stanningley are level on points with Trinity in seventh, they do have five games in hand.

Calverley United have former manager Brian Davis back at the helm but he is unlikely to stave off relegation as they have only gathered four points from 17 matches in the Championship Division.

Their latest setback was 3-1 at home to Beeston St Anthony's when defensive lapses cost them downhill in the second half having reached the interval at 0-0.

After a change of formation when they went 2-0 down, Gary Trewitt reduced the arrears for United with a 75th-minute penalty but another lapse cost Calverley.

Craig Harris, Rob Nicholson and Luke Harrop were on target for Stanningley Old Boys Reserves in their 3-2 home win over Morley Town that was as close as a match between the fourth and fifth-placed teams should be.

In Division One, lowly Grangefield Old Boys Reserves sprung a surprise with a 4-3 win at promotion-chasing Garforth Rangers, who are fifth but have games in hand on all the teams above them.

What made the win even more impressive was that Garforth led 3-1. Dan Cuff, Sam Russell, Darren Dodsworth and Tom Carlisle scored for the winners, who are tenth.

St Bede's are back at the bottom after missing a late penalty that would have given them a 4-4 draw at home to Leeds Medics & Dentists Thirds, who have now climbed above the Bradford club.

Dave Scott (2) and Andrew Scullion netted for Bede's, who are two points behind Medics with three games in hand – but it is difficult to see where Saints' next win will come from.

The only consolation is that third-bottom Gildersome Spurs Old Boys are in freefall, their 7-2 defeat at St Nicholas being their sixth successive loss.

Much worse than that is basement boys St Bede's Reserves' 15-game winless run in Division Two, Tom Ware netting twice in their 4-2 home defeat against Methley United.

Farsley Celtic Juniors Reserves did not manage a shot on target at home to Old Modernians in the first half of their Division Three clash but a friendly chat at half-time paid dividends and Juniors went on to win 6-1.

Steve Wells set the tone with goals in the 46th and 55th minutes, before Ben Wilson followed suit with his 61st and 66th-minute strikes.

Louis Surtees netted in the 85th minute and keeper Matty Smith provided substitute Tyler Cooper with his 87th-minute goal.
