THERE was little doubt as to the top clash in Division Two of the West Yorkshire League.

Hosts Hartshead defeated third-placed Baildon Trinity Athletic 3-1, taking the lead after ten minutes thanks to some 'schoolboy' defending.

Trinity responded by hitting the bar and missing three clear-cut chances but more calamitous defending, leaving a man unmarked two yards from the goal-line for a simple header, meant it was 2-0 at half-time.

Baildon were on top in the second half but again hit the bar and squandered several opportunities before Hartshead made it 3-0 with five minutes left, only for John O'Connell to grab a consolation goal.

Marksmen for Hartshead were Liam Fox (2) and substitute Liam Gowan.

Wyke Wanderers moved up to second in Division One as a result of their 4-2 win at Stanley United.

Wyke got off to a flyer, Ian Horrocks putting them in front following a smart turn after five minutes – and he made it 2-0 thanks to some close control in the penalty area.

Only a great save from Wyke goalkeeper Ben Sharp prevented United from scoring but Wanderers wingers Ben Bodle and Karl Fawcett were causing all sorts of problems.

A pass from Bodle to Horrocks on the edge of the penalty box led to him driving the ball into the bottom corner to complete his hat-trick.

Stanley responded in the second half, a defensive mistake leading to their first goal, but Wanderers were not to be denied and a scramble in the box gave Joe Walshe the chance to knock the ball through the keeper's hands from two yards to make it 4-1. Stanley got another consolation late on.

In Alliance League Division One, Field Reserves came away from Aberford Albion Reserves with a 0-0 draw, while Baildon Trinity Athletic Reserves beat Middleton Park Reserves 6-3 in Alliance Division Two.

Baildon, undefeated this year and with three new signings, had to rely on goalkeeper Dan Steele for some early saves but Sam Tyrell, one of the newcomers, put Trinity ahead with a fine goal.

They increased their lead when Ian Webb reacted quickest to a loose ball and their third was a great team effort, finished off by man of the match Darren Rands.

In the second half, Baildon counter-attacked, Nick Warden breaking away to make it 4-0, and although Middleton pulled two back, Trinity brought on fresh legs and substitutes Charles Dalton and Michael Haran put the game out of Park's reach with a goal each before Park got the last goal.

Wyke Wanderers Reserves beat visitors Otley Town Reserves 4-0, Gary Lupton starting things off when his shot hit the bar and went in off the goalkeeper.

Joe Sagar's brilliant volley made it 2-0 after 15 minutes and he added another after great work by Hoi Pin Truong, who completed the scoring as Wanderers climbed to fourth.
