WYKE Wanderers Reserves travelled to third-placed Alliance Division Two rivals Barwick Reserves in the West Yorkshire League and came away with a fine 4-1 victory.

On a sticky and boggy pitch, with both sides fielding a few first-teamers, Wyke were soon on the attack and Barwick were struggling to cope with Ian Horrocks up front.

He had a number of chances to put the visitors ahead, the first coming when rounding the goalkeeper only to be foiled by a covering defender.

But Wyke and Horrocks were not to be denied after their fine start and he opened the scoring with a good effort.

Wanderers continued to press and when Horrocks went on a solo run, drawing the keeper, he squared the ball for Hoi-Pin Truong to score from two yards.

Although Wanderers had to defend desperately at times and conceded a goal just before half-time, Horrocks netted his second of the game with a fine individual effort in the second half and Karl Fawcett came off the subs' bench to complete the scoring for Wyke.

Horrocks and Truong ran the Barwick defence ragged, while centre backs Gavin Turner and Liam Guiry helped to keep Barwick at bay at the other end as Wyke climbed to fifth.

Field AFC are still ten points clear in the Premier Division, even though their match at Hunslet Club was postponed.

Baildon Trinity Athletic dropped down to third in Division Two as a result of their match against Ossett Common Rovers being postponed.

Sherburn White Rose took Baildon's place following their 5-2 win against Middleton Park

Wyke Wanderers' Division One match at home to Ilkley Town, Field Reserves' Alliance Division One game at home to Boroughbridge Reserves and the Alliance Division Two match between Howden Clough Reserves and Baildon Trinity Athletic Reserves were all postponed.
