FARSLEY Celtic Juniors are nicely placed in what is a four-horse race for the Yorkshire Amateur League PREMIER DIVISION title.

They overtook Grangefield Old Boys, moving into second place courtesy of a 4-0 victory at second-from-bottom Rothwell.

Celtic were 2-0 ahead at half-time, thanks to Alex Gyte and a classy 25-yard lob from Tom Ormondroyd, who also scored in the second half, along with Andy Cooper.

Farsley are now four points behind Huddersfield Amateur with a game in hand, the latter defeating Grangefield 5-1, Ritchie Banks netting the consolation.

However, Grangefield will return to the top if they win their two games in hand. Fourth-placed Ealandians are also strong contenders, having only played five matches but winning them all.

Stanningley Old Boys continued their improvement with a 3-1 success at home to struggling Wigton Moor, goals coming from Mark Wilson (2) and man of the match Jason Carr, from a penalty.

St Bede's could only raise ten men for their DIVISION ONE clash at Leeds Independent, losing 6-1.

Warwick French got the Bede's goal and they remain tenth, with games in hand on two of the three clubs below them.

Gildersome Spurs Old Boys ensured that hosts Collingham Juniors Old Boys lost for the fourth straight match, defeating them 6-3.

Callum Walker made a crucial penalty save for Spurs when they were leading 4-2. Their goals came from James Wilby (2), Jordan Brereton (2) and Conor Firth (2).

Cellar dwellers St Bede's Reserves lost 5-1 at Woodkirk Valley in DIVISION TWO, Thomas Ware netting, while Heckmondwike Grammar School Old Boys lost 4-0 at Modernians Reserves in DIVISION THREE – their fourth game without a win as they slipped to fifth.

Third-from-bottom Bainbridge upset the apple cart, however, with a 4-1 victory at fourth-placed Farsley Celtic Juniors Reserves.

Counter-attacks were the key for the visitors, Razzaq Ali opening the scoring after an exceptional flick by Shoaib Hussain.

Louis Surtees levelled from the penalty spot after a controversial "inside or outside the area" decision but their second controversial spot-kick for deliberate handball was saved by Harris Butt when Bainbridge led 2-1.

Naveed Khan had earlier put the Bradford side ahead but, despite then going down to ten men, youth product Akeel Hussain Khan bagged two late goals to seal the points.
