SPEN Valley League Division One sides certainly made their presence felt in the second round of the Spen Valley Trophy.

Athletico, who are fifth in the second tier, won 3-2 at Premier Division leaders Girlington.

Adeb Jawad bagged a brace for the top-flight hosts but was topped by efforts from Sharaz Hussain, Paul Hague and Mohammed Ikraaz.

Howden Clough caused another upset, defeating top-flight opponents Smokin' Aces 4-0.

Troy Bagshaw, Simmy Moore, Lewis Boddy and Reece Scholes were on target for Clough, who are sixth in Division One.

Norfolk, who are eighth, almost pulled off another surprise.

Ryan Jones and Benho Aparicio netted for them at home to Premier Division team Route One Rovers, who only triumphed 3-2 thanks to Usman Hussain, Shoaib Iqbal and Sohail Fiaz.

Bradford Athletic's trip to Savile Youth was expected to be tight as the teams battled for a quarter-final berth – and it was, with Youth winning 5-3.

Abdullah Aswat (2), Sajeel (2) and Lookman Polli were the marksmen for Savile, with Ripon Ali (2) and Sultan Khan replying.

Norfolk's 3-0 win over Division One side Mount Pleasant was more predictable, Said Said scoring all the goals. But Vision's 4-1 victory at Savile United in an all-Premier Division clash was creditable, with Simon Emery, Farron Denton, Chris Lever and Richard Murgatroyd on target as Faisal Adam hit the consolation.

Palestino and Hightown Jets emphasised the difference between the top and the bottom of the second flight, however, with crushing home victories.

Kenny Harland (2), Victor Lluch (penalty), Martin Knowles, Wayne Sparkes and Ryan Sanson were among the scorers for Palestino in their 7-1 defeat of Inter Batley, Usman Dahiwala replying.

And Hightown hit the heights in a 10-1 success over Cleckheaton Sporting with goals from Kyle Kershaw (2), Nathan Clarke (2), Kieron Kelly, Ryan Lacey, Adam Smith, Dean Comins and Carl Haynes, an own goal completing the tally.

There was also some league action, TVR United strengthening their chase for the Premier Division title with a 3-0 win at Marsh thanks to efforts from Asif Iqbal, Haseeb Rehman and Faisal Shabir.

TVR stay second but are now only two points behind Girlington with four games in hand.

The only Division One match was a thriller, with leaders Idle drawing 6-6 at home to mid-table Fox & Hounds.

Dominic Simpson (2), Paul Beaumont, Gareth Richardson, Matty Swannell and Andrew Hudson were on target for the Batley visitors.
