FARSLEY Celtic Juniors Reserves' second-round HANCOCK CUP tie at Farnley Sports Reserves certainly lived up to its pre-match billing in the Yorkshire Amateur League.

Division Four Farnley, who had won their previous six matches in league and cup, dominated the early stages but Farsley, victors in their previous three, slowly came into the match, and Tyler Cooper dribbled through to give them the lead in the 41st minute.

The Division Three visitors then capitalised on a ten-minute period of dominance, with Louis Surtees heading home a Chad Morris cross in the 78th minute.

Farnley had Geordie Rossendale sent off five minutes later but still scored via Adam Horner, and Farsley were indebted for the second week running to Matty Smith in the Juniors' goal as they booked a tie against Division Two outfit Huddersfield Amateur Reserves.

Rain put paid to the main attraction – the MARFLITT CUP second-round clash between Premier Division rivals Grangefield Old Boys and Farsley Celtic Juniors – but Stanningley Old Boys hit the goal trail in another tie, winning 8-3 at Sandal Wanderers.

Richard Alexander (4) and John Mallinson (2) were among the scorers for the old boys, who now visit last season's finalists Ealandians.

In the CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION, ninth-placed Calverley United paid a heavy price for their point in a 1-1 draw at tenth-placed Leeds Medics & Dentists Reserves.

United skipper Tom Westerman broke a leg shortly after their equaliser, while three of his team-mates were taken off with knee injuries, two of them serious.

Medics, who had gone four games without a point or even a goal, went ahead on the hour to break their nigh-on seven-hour goal famine, but Ben Binns equalised five minutes later to end a run of three losses.

Gildersome Spurs Old Boys and Grangefield Old Boys were 2-2 at half-time in DIVISION ONE but Spurs netted four in the second half on the way to a 6-3 win.

The marksmen for Gildersome, who climb to seventh, were Conor Firth (2), James Wilby (2), Jordan Brereton and substitute Reece Williams, with the early pressure for third-from-bottom Grangefield led by Sam Waterhouse, Chris Ross and Luke Houghton.

St Bede's Reserves, who are second from bottom in DIVISION TWO, went down 3-1 at home to Amaranth Crossgates, Jordan Farrell netting what was then an equaliser, while Bainbridge were on the wrong end of Almondburians Reserves' best performance of the season in DIVISION THREE.

The visitors took the lead via Bilal Saleem from the penalty spot after 20 minutes but little else went right for the ninth-placed club in a 4-1 setback.

That was the same score when St Bede's Thirds scored first via Anthony Garner in DIVISION SIX on the way to a home defeat against Huddersfield Amateur Fourths, which put the winners up to third while St Bede's dropped to fifth.
