VISION were given an almighty scare by First Division Fox & Hounds in the first round of the Spen Valley Trophy at Appleton Academy.

Dom Simpson (4), Paul Beaumont and Jamie Baulk scored for the underdogs but Vision won 7-6 thanks to goals from Lloyd Webster (3), Paul King (3) and Fenton Denton.

There was a shock in the First Division, where tenth-placed Norfolk won 3-2 at leaders Idle but the rest of the matches went to form.

Palestino and Athletico, who both won, are poised to overtake Idle eventually, Wayne Sparkes netting the only goal as second-placed Palestino won 1-0 at next-to-bottom Inter Batley.

Athletico, who are third, were much more prolific as they put eight past basement boys Cleckheaton Sporting, with goals from Shamraz Hussain (3), Paul Hague (3) and Qendrim Emini (2), George Garforth and an own goal replying.

Mount Pleasant kept up their title challenge from fifth with a 5-3 home victory over George Healey, Mohammed Patel (2), Jawad Khan, Sufyaan Hafeez and Aamir Aswat netting for the winners, with Luke Newsome, Ryan Jones and Olly Mitchell on target for the losers.

Sixth-placed Howden Clough, who are only four points behind Idle having played the same number of games, beat visitors Savile Town, who are seventh, 9-0.

Reece Scholes' hat-trick was backed up by braces from McCauley Clarke and Troy Bagshaw, Brad Mason and Roy Sheard making up the tally against a team who are now five points behind but have three games in hand.

There was only one game in the Premier Division, and bottom club Whitburn Athletic improved their goal ratio to ten in eight games by scoring twice at home to leaders Girlington.

However, the pacesetters netted five via Adeeb Jawad (2), Daanyal Dar, Fraz Dar and Kamran Khan to put more distance between themselves and more likely championship winners TVR United and Route One Rovers.
