FARSLEY Celtic are tantalisingly close to snatching top spot in Division One North of the Evo-Stik League and the one automatic promotion place that goes with it after a storming victory in midweek.

The Celts romped to a 7-0 win at play-off hopefuls Ramsbotttom United on Tuesday to cut the gap on leaders Lancaster City to just three points.

Farsley have two games in hand on the Dolly Blues and will be aiming to keep up the pressure by taking another maximum against Ossett Albion tomorrow.

The Unicorns are lower mid-table but make the short trip to Throstle Nest in good spirits after a 3-1 home win over Colwyn Bay last weekend.

Farsley will be without top scorer James Walshaw and midfielder Ross Daly knows they will miss their talisman.

Daly said: "Wally got another hat-trick on Tuesday and he'll be a massive miss – but Nights (Lewis Nightingale) also got a hat-trick, so others are contributing.

"That game was the most I've enjoyed playing in for some time. It was great to be involved in. We went there expecting a tough battle because they had been a good run but I think the way we started unsettled them and then we took our chances."

BRIGHOUSE TOWN may feel the backlash from that as they host the Rams.

The clubs are two of three locked on 49 points so Paul Quinn's men, who won at Lancaster last weekend, could find themselves leapfrogged or closer the play-off places by the end of the day.

LIVERSEDGE suffered the frustration of a postponement last Saturday but they are looking forward to welcoming ALBION SPORTS for a big Premier Division derby in the Toolsation Northern Counties East League.

A win would see tenth-placed Sedge climb above their neighbours on goal difference as Kulwinder Sandhu's men are the only side in the top six with a minus in that column.

Top-tier rivals THACKLEY are still fourth despite being becalmed by back-to-back postponements.

The Dennyboys expect tomorrow's home game against mid-table Athersley Recreation, who suffered a humbling 5-1 defeat to Staveley on Wednesday, to go ahead.

The play-offs introduced in Division One have made it much more competitive and it is keeping Campion's season alive.

The newcomers are in eighth spot, just two places outside the top six despite trailing tomorrow's fourth-placed visitors Penistone Church by 15 points.

While Campion could still sneak into the promotion picture, tenth-placed neighbours ECCLESHILL UNITED are now playing for pride only. They journey into North Yorkshire to take on Knaresborough Town, the club immediately above Campion.

SILSDEN face a tough quarter-final tie in the Macron Cup, the Hallmark Security League Cup.

The Cobbydalers have home advantage but their visitors are Division One rivals City of Liverpool, who have momentum as they are pushing for promotion to the top tier.
