NEW boys Campion have enjoyed a fine start to non-league life but are in need of assistance off the field.

They were early leaders of Northern Counties East League Division One and, although their form has levelled out, their introduction to the football pyramid has been impressive.

Having been early leaders, James Bicknell’s men go into today’s home game against AFC Emley on the same points as their visitors, who were title favourites, and neighbouring rivals Eccleshill United.

The fact that ninth-placed Campion are rubbing shoulders with such established clubs is a mark of just how well they have settled.

Bicknell is delighted with his squad and their efforts so far but admits they need help behind the scenes.

He said: “We really need people to help us out with jobs at the ground and we’re desperately short of people on match days.”

Time and money were spent on improving the pitch at the sportsbulk.co.uk Stadium during the summer and floodlights were installed as part of ground requirements to make the step up.

The manager added: “A lot of time and considerable effort has gone on for us to get this far and to make it work we are looking for volunteers to help us. We run a development team in the West Riding County Amateur League and an under-21 side.

“We need people to help out with match day duties with a variety of jobs that need to be done such as helping Bob (Stead) out in the kitchens. We also require people who can spare a few hours during the week helping Bob get the pitch ready.

“I’m available on my mobile number and so is Andy Shepard if any of the locals or any of our supporters who want to get a little more involved with the club want to come forward.”

Bicknell can be contacted on 07908-689849 or club treasurer Shepard on 07812-141657.
