Eccleshill United slipped to a 2-1 home defeat against Hemsworth MW in Baris Northern Counties East League Division One in what was caretaker manager Dai Jones’ last game in charge of the Eagles.

Hemsworth took the lead just after the half-hour through Darren Barrick but Alec Rouse levelled for a very young home side just before the interval. A late strike from the visitors’ Rob Crapper sealed a 2-1 win for Hemsworth.

Eagles’ chairman of football Adrian Benson said: “Dai wanted to step down as interim head coach of the first team and return to his role on the development side.

"Graham Mitchell will take charge of the first team on a temporary basis while the positions of head coach and player coach are advertised.

“Graham is a former player with Huddersfield Town and Bradford City and was in charge of youth development at Huddersfield, so we are in safe hands until the club makes a decision after seeing who applies for the posts.”

Eagles’ divisional rivals Albion Sports were held to a 2-2 draw at Teversal after the home side produced a very late leveller. Alex Cusack had put Albion in front just before half-time from the penalty spot following a handball.

Teversal equalised before Cusack netted his second but as the visitors appeared to be cruising to a win the home side scored with just over a minute remaining.

Brighouse Town mounted a comeback of their own in the Premier Division as they overturned a first-half deficit to win 2-1 at home against Maltby Main.

A Craig Gladwin strike midway through the first period had seen the visitors take a slender lead into the break but Ernest Boafa equalised before Tom Matthews netted a last-minute winner.

Leaders Bridlington Town consolidated their position with a 4-1 home win over Thackley after a goalless first half.

Brid’s Craig Hogg broke the deadlock two minutes after the interval and added another a minute later before Nicky Matthews pulled one back for the Dennyboys.

However, Hogg went on to complete a hat-trick and Carl Stewart added a fourth for the home side.

Liversedge were also beaten as they went down 3-0 at Pickering Town.

A Ged Dalton strike in the 35th minute set the home side on their way and a brace from Liam Salt either side of the break finished the visitors off.
