FARSLEY Celtic's hopes of promotion from the Evo-Stik League suffered another blow as they were beaten 3-1 at home by Premier Division play-off rivals Hednesford Town.

The Celts took an early lead but the Pitmen snatched stoppage-time goals in each half to slant the figures in their favour.

Adam Lakeland's men had played well but the visitors probably edged a tight game in which chances were created at both ends in the first half but there was a less open second period.

Farsley's fifth-minute opener came after a good sweeping move and Paul Walker's excellent final ball picked out Ben Atkinson, who waltzed past keeper James Wren before slotting in.

The visitors' Joe Fitzpatrick slotted in under Celts keeper Graeme McKibbon in first-half stoppage-time.

But his afternoon ended painfully as he clattered into an advertising board in the second half which caused a head wound that forced him off, despite the blood flow being stemmed.

Hednesford edged in front with a little over 11 minutes remaining when Danny Glover headed home Jordan Graham's cross from open play.

The gloss was put on the win by James Lawrie, who had been denied in the first half by a fine goal-line headed clearance from centre back Adam Clayton.

Clayton was not able to prevent Lawrie netting in the second minute of time added on after the Pitmen's forward had forced Celts right back Lewis Turner into an error before rounding McKibbon and rolling the ball in.

Farsley dropped one place to seventh after Hednesford leapfrogged them and the Pitmen are now inside the play-off places.

BRIGHOUSE TOWN were denied a chance to improve their placing in Division One as their game at Atherton Collieries was postponed after the Lancashire outfit's pitch failed a morning inspection.

Vill Powell's men remain 17th, while Colls stay third from bottom.
