FARSLEY Celtic had no luck whatsoever at Keys Park, a 2-1 defeat against Hednesford Town being enough to put the Celts out of the play-off places in the Evo-Stik League Premier Division.

Adam Lakeland’s men faced a tough afternoon from the third minute when the Pitmen were awarded a penalty.

Lewis Turner was penalised as the home side’s James Fitzgibbon was impeded in the area, and striker Danny Glover fired the resulting spot-kick past keeper Graeme McKibbon.

The Pitmen’s keeper James Wren parried a shot from Luke Parkin for a corner soon after, but the home side were back on the attack as they countered from the flag-kick, with McKibbon again coming to Farsley’s rescue.

The visitors had a glorious opportunity to level the match when Nathan Cartman was picked out by Luke Porritt’s 33rd-minute cross but the striker fired wide from deep inside the area.

Cartman redeemed himself ten minutes after the break when he latched onto the loose ball after a Paul Walker shot had been blocked, and slotted in with Wren out of the picture.

Parkin had a free-kick cleared at the expense of a corner soon after, and midway through the second period Cartman and substitute Adam Priestley combined before the latter hit a post with a shot from an acute angle.

Ten minutes from time, Ben Bailey bundled home the winner after the Celts defence failed to clear a corner.

Brighouse Town enjoyed a much-needed win in Division One North as they beat fellow strugglers Colne at the Yorkshire Pay Stadium.

Town also produced an 80th-minute winner, with Aaron Martin meeting a superb cross with a back-post header to make it 2-1.

It was Town who had opened the scoring after Gabriel Johnson had outmuscled his marker ten minutes before the break and hit a shot that crept in.

The red-rose outfit levelled from the penalty spot through Oliver Crankshaw early in the second half, but Town dug in to win the derby, remaining in the bottom three but joining Colne on 17 points.
