DESPITE falling behind to a great team goal that was finished off by Adam Simpson, Campion beat derby rivals Thackley 5-2 in the Flexible Football West Riding County FA Under-21 Floodlit League.

In blustery conditions, Campion levelled via Jahro Parchment, and quick goals by Kyle Trennary and Josh Finan put them in the driving seat at half-time.

Thackley started the second half brightly and pulled a goal back through Wasim Shah, but were denied an equaliser by a world-class save by Matt Keen, Campion then wore their opponents down and scored twice more through Luke Robinson and Matthias Britton.

As a result of this defeat, Thackley went to the bottom, while Campion moved up to fifth.

Brad Birkhead was man of the match for Brighouse Town but couldn't stop them from losing 8-0 against Huddersfield Amateurs in the Halifax & District FA Albert Crabtree Cup.

In the Northern Under-19 Alliance League, Eccleshill United beat Ossett Town 2-0.

With the wind swirling at the Mitton Group Stadium, it was clear that this would not fluid or attractive play.

Joe Storey almost gave the Eagles a 22nd-minute lead, with Kevin Pedro failing to convert the follow-up.

Ossett started the second half strongly, and should have taken the lead in the 49th minute when their winger ballooned the ball high and wide after beating United keeper Brad Emmerson.

A minute later, Storey found space in the centre of Ossett's defence, striking the ball into the bottom corner of the net, and he doubled Eccleshill's lead seven minutes later when his intended cross caught a gust of wind and went in.

United's manager Luke Dean said: “I thought the team played excellently. They stuck to the game-plan we worked on in training and looked organised."

The under-21 matches between Ossett Town and Brighouse Town and Silsden and Tadcaster Albion were postponed due to waterlogged pitches, as was the Northern Under-19 Alliance Pat Rice League Cup tie between Worsbrough Bridge Athletic and Bradford Park Avenue.
