WITH the new season imminent, the pre-season friendlies are beginning to thin out, but three of the area’s clubs are in action tonight.

Farsley Celtic, Thackley and Liversedge are all getting game time and all are away from home.

They are giving their pitches much-needed recovery time after home friendlies over the past month.

The Celts are gearing up for their first campaign back in the Evo-Stik Premier Division following last term’s promotion and, in their penultimate friendly, they journey to Glossop North End, who were league rivals of last term.

Brighouse Town were due to host Barton Town but that game has been cancelled.

Barton are at Brigg Town, playing for the Barton Cup, and Brighouse had to re-arrange their game against Shaw Lane.

The meeting is in memory of Daniel Wilkinson, who tragically died in a cup match between the clubs last season.

It was originally scheduled for Tuesday, July 18 but was put back and will now be played on Friday at Brighouse.

Thackley and Liversedge are the other sides in action tonight and, with the clubs at step five beginning their season this Saturday, most of them in FA Cup extra-preliminary round action, it is their last chance to give their players match practice and work on formations.

The Dennyboys make the short trip north to Steeton, while Sedge journey in the opposite direction to take on Huddersfield Amateurs.
