BRIGHOUSE Town have confirmed Paul Quinn's successor as manager, handing the reins to Vill Powell.

The Yorkshireman holds a UEFA A licence and was assistant boss at Harrogate Town. His right-hand man at the Dual Seal Stadium will be Nathan Brown.

Former Sheffield Wednesday forward Powell has an FA Trophy winners' medal with Grays Athletic and has also had spells overseas with Derry City in Ireland and HJK Helsinki in Finland.

Yet his main claim to fame is that he was the strike partner of Premier League-winning England striker Jamie Vardy at Stocksbridge Park Steels before the latter moved to Halifax Town and later to Leicester City.

Powell is still a young and ambitious man at 37 but he left Vanarama National League North side Harrogate because the club are going full-time next term.

Town boss Simon Weaver wanted Powell to remain on the coaching staff but he was reluctant to give up or even compromise his work with Sheffield Council, so he decided to move on.

Powell's assistant also has an impressive background in the game. Brown, 35, is a former Huddersfield Town, Lincoln City and Macclesfield Town defender.

It is understood that Farsley Celtic's new management team of Adam Lakeland and Mark Bett were on the shortlist to succeed Quinn and Lee Ashworth and that they almost landed the job before the vacancy at Throstle Nest suddenly arose.

Lakeland and Bett were invited for an interview at Farsley and accepted the role almost immediately.

Another strong candidate for the Brighouse Town job decided to pursue a business venture and has turned his back on football while he concentrates on that.
