BRIGHOUSE Town were denied a chance to climb back into the play-off places in Division One North of the Evo-Stik League last night when their home game against fellow promotion chasers Ossett Town was washed out.

Paul Quinn’s side would have gone above fifth-placed Scarborough Athletic on goal difference with a win by two or more goals.

It would have been a tall order against an Ossett Town side in second place but the incentive was there with home advantage in a derby.

The match was called off late in the day, and following the continued downpour throughout the evening, tonight’s fixtures may be affected as three of the area’s clubs are scheduled to be in action.

One of them is Brighouse’s league rivals Farsley Celtic.

After Saturday’s heart-breaking stoppage-time defeat at leaders Lancaster City, fourth-placed Farsley face another huge away game against Scarborough.

The Seadogs, managed by former Guiseley boss Steve Kittrick, are immediately below the Celts in the table after they also lost 3-2 at the weekend.

Kittrick’s men were beaten at home by Hyde, who are former Farsley skipper Paddy Miller’s new club.

The Celts’ defeat at the table toppers leaves them nine points adrift of the Dolly Blues, but they have three games in hand.

As the mathematics prove, there is no room for error from promotion- chasing Farsley as they continue to target the one automatic promotion place.

There are also two games in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League tonight as Thackley and Liversedge both have home fixtures in the Premier Division.

The Dennyboys remained in fourth place after sharing the points from a 2-2 draw at neighbours Albion Sports at the weekend, while Wayne Benn’s Hemsworth were losing 3-0 at runaway leaders Cleethorpes Town.

Thackley would break the 60-point barrier for the season with a win this evening, while Sedge would leapfrog Albion into sixth place if they take at least a point from the visit of AFC Mansfield.

Jonathan Rimmington’s side suffered a narrow defeat at third-placed Bridlington Town on Saturday, while Mansfield, who are only four points worse off but have three games in hand on Sedge, edged to a 2-1 victory at home to struggling Armthorpe.
