Evo-Stik League Premier Division: Brighouse Town 2 Farsley Celtic 1

BRIGHOUSE Town extended their lead at the summit to five points with a narrow victory over Farsley Celtic, who ended the game with ten men.

Celts striker James Walshaw was shown a straight red card three minutes from time following a confrontation after the visitors felt one of their players had been fouled in the home penalty area.

Paul Quinn’s Town had control of the tight derby by then, having come from a goal down at half-time to lead.

It was substitute Tom Haigh who changed the outcome with an assist before netting the winning goal.

Farsley started well and pressed the home side back but Brighouse were looking dangerous on the break.

The visitors edged in front just after the half-hour when Richard Marshall rifled a shot from outside the area into the top corner.

Soon after Celts keeper Graeme McKibbin made a fine save to foil Luke Parkin.

Seven minutes after the interval, Quinn brought Haigh on from the bench, replacing Danny Bunch, and the substitute made a rapid contribution.

He drilled a low cross into the area and as Farsley’s Chris Howarth attempted to clear, he turned it past McKibbin.

Haigh pounced to net the all-important goal 12 minutes from time after McKibbin had done well to parry a shot from another substitute.

Ruben Jerome had replaced Leon Osborne six minutes earlier and his shot stung the hands of the visitors’ stopper before Haigh lashed the rebound in.
