THERE was a perfect ending for Farsley Celtic skipper Robbie O’Brien as he brought the curtain down on his playing career by scoring the goal that set his side on their way to a 2-1 home victory.

O'Brien marked Saturday’s match against Radcliffe Borough in Evo-Stik Division One North by stroking home his last goal, just four minutes in and punched the air in joyous celebration.

Boro were reduced to ten men in the 36th minute when Nathan Valentine handled a goal-bound header from Adam Clayton but Aiden Savory’s penalty was well saved by Chris Cheetham.

The visitors’ goal was leading a charmed life around that period as Farsley pressed for a second, but the Celts finally doubled their lead ten minutes into the second half when Paul Walker curled a shot into the top corner following a great move involving Lewis Nightingale and Chris Howarth.

There was an unnecessarily tense end to the game after lively Boro forward Elliott Rokka netted with minutes remaining.

Farsley boss Neil Parsley said: “It’s nice to win the last game of the season but I thought it should have been a bigger victory.

“Their keeper had a good game and made some really important saves but I still think we missed far too many gilt- edged chances. It was a win but a bit of a disappointing one because I felt we were a bit flat.”

Brighouse Town also won their last game of the season, coming from a goal down to beat visitors Mossley 3-1.

The Lillywhites had taken a 14th-minute lead through Mike Fish but the comeback began three minutes after the break when Kurt Harris netted a great chip from 25 yards.

Town led when a free-kick dropped for James Hurtley, who netted a first-time shot, and Danny Facey put the icing on the cake when he stroked in the third after Leon Henry had put it on a plate for him.
