THE scoreline flattered Spennymoor United as they won an entertaining game at Brighouse Town 4-0 to climb to third in Evo-Stik Division One North.

Town played their full part in the match and could have taken the lead after an end-to-end opening spell, Tom Robinson being foiled by Dan Lowson, who tipped the striker’s shot onto the bar.

Soon after that Spennymoor were a goal to the good, which was tough on Paul Quinn’s side, especially Paul Hargreen.

The keeper had made a good save to deny Nathan Fisher but could only parry the ball, and Mark Anderson drilled in the rebound from six yards.

It proved to be the only goal of the first half, although the home side had the ball in the net before the break only to see an offside flag raised.

Any hopes that Quinn’s men had of a comeback faded when Spennymoor rattled in two quick goals.

Fisher doubled their lead, slotting in when he rounded Hargreen after a David Dowson through ball had picked him out and, less than five minutes later, they conceded an unfortunate own goal when a Dowson cross was turned in by Jimmy Pollard.

Quinn immediately introduced Steve Hollingworth and Danny Facey from the bench, Tom Haigh and Robinson making way.

Brighouse pressed forward at 3-0 down but with no joy as the visitors defended well, although Lowson was forced to make another excellent save.

James Risbrough wrapped up the scoring five minutes from time with a low strike into the corner.

Farsley were left frustrated when they travelled to Witton Albion only for the match official to call the game off due to a waterlogged pitch.
