FARSLEY Celtic’s magical spell in the Evo-Stik Division One North continued with a deserved 2-1 home win over Bamber Bridge in a tough roses derby.

The home side had both of their centre backs to thank for their 11th consecutive win in all competitions.

Adam Clayton and Paddy Miller scored the goals and defended well to restrict the visitors to a solitary reply as the Celts climbed to eighth in the table.

Celts boss Neil Parsley said: “We’re all delighted with another win but it was a bit nervy towards the end with the lads having to throw their bodies in the way.

“I was disappointed that we didn’t put the game to bed before it got to that as I felt they (Bamber Bridge) were there for the taking in the first 15 to 20 minutes of the second half.

“But we got the win to keep our exceptional run going and it’s not often that you get both central defenders on the score sheet.

"I think that’s fair play to lads that go up there for the set-pieces as they have made the most of their chances and not just in this game.”

Farsley could have taken a first-minute lead through one of their heroes as Miller’s glancing header to a Jordan Deacey free kick flashed just wide across the face of the visitors’ goal.

The home supporters didn’t have too long to wait as Clayton converted Deacey’s tenth-minute corner. Paul Walker was at the far post to drill the ball low and hard back into the danger area and Clayton fired it high into the net.

Bamber weathered a good period from the home side, in which chances were created, to have a good spell themselves towards the end of the first half. However, the Celts came out after the interval fired up and Miller rose to head home Lewis Nightingale’s 49th-minute corner.

The visitors were deflated and took time to regroup but three good substitutions from their boss Neil Crowe got them back into the game.

And they got a goal back through Matty Kay in the 69th minute – and put some late pressure on the Celts but there was no comeback.

As Farsley improved their position in the table neighbouring rivals BRIGHOUSE TOWN tumbled two places following a 2-1 loss at Burscough which lifted the Lancashire outfit into the play-off places.

Michael Monaghan gave the home side a fifth-minute lead and they took that into the break. Town levelled when Tom Robinson headed in after Burscough keeper Calvin Hare could only punch a 58th minute free kick.

The home side hit back minutes after the hour mark when centre back Nick Ryan netted the winner with a terrific strike from the edge of the area.
