Evo-Stik Division One North: Ossett Town 1 Brighouse Town 1

BRIGHOUSE Town registered their third draw on the trot after Ossett Town netted late to share the spoils from this derby.

Ossett worked hard to get their pitch fit for play, and were rewarded when Cameron Lyn cancelled out an early penalty strike from Paul Quinn’s visitors.

The game may have escaped the threat from the weather but it did finish late.

The teams came back out for the second half but were immediately taken back into the changing rooms by the match referee before the restart. There was confusion on the terraces and even in the dugouts as the rain was falling but the conditions were no worse than in the first half.

Any doubts about the completion of the fixture were eased when it was made known that there was a hole in one of the goal nets, and the game was back under way after a swift repair.

Brighouse striker Danny Facey was fouled in the area in the 14th minute, and Ernest Boafo stepped forward to score from the penalty spot. Although the hosts were playing well and creating the odd chance, it was Quinn’s men who looked most likely to add to their lead in the first half.

Ossett’s former Farsley keeper Tom Morgan made an excellent save in the early stages of the second period as the visitors threatened.

The home side’s Luke Mangham and substitute Mark Simpson went close but it was Lyn who bagged their all-important leveller with a little over 16 minutes remaining.

Their third stalemate on the trot didn’t affect Brighouse’s place in the table as they remain in seventh, still four points outside the play-off zone.
