THERE will be two replays in The Emirates FA Cup this midweek after mixed results for the four of the area’s sides that were involved in the preliminary round, and it is Brighouse Town who have a quick turnaround.

Paul Quinn’s men travel to Atherton Collieries today after the North West Counties League Premier Division outfit grabbed a second-half equaliser at the Dual Seal Stadium to earn a second bite of the cherry.

Brighouse took the lead midway through the first half when, from a well-worked corner, Leon Henry pounced after a Danny Facey effort was only parried by the keeper.

Atherton’s Ben Hardcastle levelled against the run of play just before the hour but on the evidence of the first clash the Colliers deserved today’s replay.

Town’s Evo-Stik Division One North game at Scarborough Athletic, scheduled for today, has been shelved as has Farsley Celtic’s home game against Spennymoor Town in the same division.

The Celts will now host Stocksbridge Park Steels in a replay tomorrow after a 1-1 draw at the Division One South outfit’s Bracken Moor Lane Look Local Stadium.

In a tight game, Neil Parsley’s side broke the deadlock in the 64th minute when Neil Stevens netted.

The visitors looked good value for the lead at that point but Stocksbridge battled back, and Richard Stirrup’s 77th-minute equaliser was enough to book the replay.

Thackley went one better by securing their place in the first qualifying round with a second consecutive victory in the north-eastern footballing hotbed.

The Dennyboys won 2-1 at Ashington – who had knocked out Albion Sports in an extra-preliminary round replay – after winning 3-1 at Durham City in the previous round.

After a goalless first half, Ben Cohen and Ryan Farrell struck within three minutes of each other to give Thackley a 2-0 lead.

Steve Harmison’s Ashington made it tense finish when Matthew Grieve halved the deficit five minutes from time but the Dennyboys deservedly hung on.

It was a different story at the Angel Telecom Stadium as Silsden exited the competition following a 2-0 home defeat to Padiham, just four days after the sides had met at the same venue in the North West Counties top tier.

The Cobbydalers edged that tight league game 3-2 but the Lancashire club gained their revenge in the Roses cup derby.

Sean Cookson and Kieron Pickup were on target for the visitors, the latter from the penalty spot after Ben Crabtree was adjudged to have handled a cross in the area.

To compound their misery, Silsden were thwarted from a spot kick of their own in the second half.

Padiham’s Martin Parkes was guilty of a foul in the box but was rescued as his keeper Sean Davis saved Joe Mitchell’s effort.
