IT WAS the final Saturday of pre-season for the Evo-Stik League sides, so Farsley Celtic and Brighouse Town made the most of it with away friendly games and both were victorious.

The Celts headed north to take on Evo-Stik Premier Division outfit Blyth Spartans and Neil Parsley's men put in an impressive team display.

They took a first-half lead when the home keeper made an error and Nick Guest needed no better invitation to open his account for his new club.

Farsley keeper Tom Taylor had to make a good low save before the break and Blyth had a decent chance late in the second half but the Celts stood firm to claim a deserved win.

Brighouse beat Central League hosts Basford United 2-1 after a morning training session and lunch at Loughborough University's excellent sporting facilities.

Leon Henry broke the deadlock when he pounced in the first half to net after a Ryan Hall shot had been parried by the home keeper.

Jimmy Pollard was denied by the bar after the break but he claimed a deserved goal for Town in the 70th minute, before Stuart Hendrie snatched a late consolation.
