Mossley 2 Brighouse Town 3

BRIGHOUSE enjoyed a morale-boosting victory in a five-goal thriller at Mossley but it only lifted them one place up the Evo-Stik Division One North table.

Town are a lowly 16th but are now seven points above the drop zone, while Mossley dropped a place to tenth.

Ernest Boafo lashed in a 27th-minute shot and Ryan Hall netted after a tricky run to put Town two up at the break.

Brian Matthews pulled one back for the Lillywhites early in the second half but Town’s two-goal lead was restored when the home keeper slammed an attempted clearance against Boafo and the ball ricocheted into the bottom corner.

A late penalty converted by Doug Carroll with a little over a minute remaining reduced the gap again but Town held on, despite six minutes of added time.

Two of the area’s semi-pro clubs were denied action after heavy rain on Friday and Saturday morning, with LIVERSEDGE and ECCLESHILL both having home games postponed due to waterlogged pitches.

Sedge should have hosted Staveley MW in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division, while the Eagles were due a visit from Hemsworth MW in Division One.

Both clubs should be back in action in the League Cup this week.
