Brighouse Town 0, Ossett Town 1

BRIGHOUSE Town's first-ever FA Trophy tie ended in defeat – and they only had themselves to blame after wasting chance after chance.

Paul Quinn's men went down by the most slender of margins as Evo-Stik League Division One North rivals Ossett Town snatched a victory that had looked unlikely for most of the preliminary-round contest.

The home side caused Ossett plenty of problems and the visitors' former Guiseley midfielder Dave Merris picked up an early yellow card. Ossett defended resolutely but Brighouse had a glorious opportunity to finally break the deadlock in the 67th minute.

James Hurtley was fouled in the area but Ryan Hall's penalty hit the post and went for a goal-kick – and six minutes later Merris netted a free-kick to send Ossett through.

Brighouse are new to the Evo-Stik League, so this was the first time they have been eligible for the Trophy. It was a costly defeat as they also exited the FA Cup at an early stage.
