THROSTLE Nest hosted two FA Cup preliminary round ties this weekend but witnessed only one home victory as Albion Sports were dumped out of the competition while FARSLEY joined Brighouse Town in the next round.

Farsley romped through on Saturday with a 4-1 home victory over Athersley Recreation. They broke the deadlock inside the opening quarter hour when Lewis Nightingale found the top left-hand corner of the net with a good strike.

Aiden Savory was denied by a post later in the half but Farsley did take a two-goal lead into the break when skipper Rob O’Brien fired home.

Savory got on the scoresheet just after the hour mark before Athersley’s Lee Bennett made it 3-1 from the spot following a handball ten minutes from time but it was a mere consolation as Farsley sub Adam Priestley netted in stoppage time.

BRIGHOUSE TOWN also went through with a 3-0 win at West Didsbury & Chorlton.

Ernest Boafo lifted the ball over the home keeper just before the half hour, Tom Matthews pounced on the stroke of half time and, after Leon Henry was fouled in the area, Ryan Hall sent the keeper the wrong way from the penalty spot.

ALBION SPORTS let a lead slip against Northern League top tier outfit Ashington today.

Albion took a deserved lead late in the first half when Danny Facey netted after Karl Hall had won an aerial duel. But Kulwinder Sandhu’s men suffered a blow when they lost Matt Morgan at half-time with a thigh strain.

Ashington substitute Marc Walton turned the game in the space of four minutes. He hit a screamer with his first touch of the ball and fired in the winner soon after. Albion finished the game with ten men after Matt Mathers picked up a late red card.
