The Bulk Sports Suppliers Bradford Sunday Alliance League Division 2A title race went down to the wire, with White Hart United’s Marcus Edwards the hero of the hour in a dramatic final day.

His goal against Ancient Forresters was the only difference between the sides in a thrilling title-decider.

Foresters needed all three points from the fixture to clinch the championship but Edwards had other ideas.

White Hart had timed their run-in to perfection, beating Wrose Albion 3-2 the previous week to head the table for the first time this year.

The double eluded them, however, as they were beaten by Steel Bangle in the Bradford & District Sunday Cup final on a wet and miserable night.

The Division 2B title was won with three weeks to spare by Whitburn Athletic, who finished six points clear. Runners-up Inter Mill Lane only scraped promotion on goal difference against Beldon Sports.

George Hotel reserves could only finish fourth in Division 3A but they had a big part to play in deciding the outcome of the championship when they beat Sunday Cup winners Steel Bangle in the penultimate fixture to deny them any chance of a double. The previous week, George had won the Amateur Cup final against Pudsey Amateurs via a penalty shoot-out.

Swaine Green won the title and back-to-back promotions since joining the league two years ago.

Division 3B champions Hare and Hounds also completed a second consecutive promotion but only pipped Grass Greener United on goal difference to clinch the title.

In Division Four, Bridge FC and Mill Lane Reserves were the only sides who looked like winning the division for new teams.

Bridge did that with a fortnight to spare, Stanningly Albion retained the Intermediate Cup final at Manningham Mills with a convincing 4-0 victory over Wyke Rangers.

All clubs are reminded that the league’s presentation evening will be held at East Bowling Unity Club, Liecester Street at on Wednesday, June 6 at 7.30pm.
