Double winners Buttershaw White Star celebrate their undefeated campaign
A 4-0 victory at Wyke Wanderers enabled Premier Division champions Buttershaw White Star to finish the season unbeaten in the Bradford Sunday Alliance League.
Mark Betts opened the scoring after five minutes, with John Selby adding a second just before the interval.
Another goal for Betts arrived midway through the second half and skipper Danny Brown wrapped up the scoring in an entertaining match.
The only team to beat double champions White Star this season are league runners-up West Bowling.
They beat Buttershaw in the West Riding County Sunday Cup quarter-finals and also in the Bradford & District Cup final after a penalty shoot-out.
There are only four trophies that clubs at this level of Sunday football can win – their league title, League Cup, District Cup and County Cup – unless they also enter the English FA Sunday Cup.
The only Bradford Sunday Alliance League team to achieve this feat were Stanley Road in 2003-04, although even then they were playing in the second tier.
It is thought that White Star’s record is the first time that any team has gone undefeated in a season since 1985-86, when East Bowling Unity achieved the feat the season the Bradford Sunday Alliance League was formed.
Buttershaw will receive the Premier Division and League Cup trophies in the league’s presentation evening at East Bowling Unity Club on Wednesday, June 6 (7.30).
* The only Bradford Sunday Alliance League team to go close to winning the English FA Sunday Cup were Albion Sports, who twice reached the final when they were playing Sunday football.
West Bowling went close to winning all four domestic titles last season when they won the Premier Division, League Cup and also retained the West Riding County Sunday Cup.
They only missed out on the Bradford & District Sunday Cup, a trophy they won for the first time in their history this campaign.
