Buttershaw White Star have one more point to prove
5:55pm Friday 11th May 2012 in Sun Alliance By Trevor Adams
It has been a memorable season for Buttershaw White Star, seen here after winning their League Cup final
Sunday marks the final weekend of the Sports Bulk Suppliers' Bradford Sunday Alliance League season, and for the first time in several years the Premier Division title has been decided for a while.
Buttershaw White Star are the new champions, and if they avoid defeat at Wyke Wanderers this weekend they will have gone through the season without losing a match.
They have done the double this season and were only beaten on penalty kicks in the Bradford & District FA Sunday Cup final at Eccleshill United by former title-holders West Bowling, who are the only team to beat White Star this season.
That was in the quarter-final of the West Riding County FA Sunday Cup - a competition Buttershaw would love to win.
West Bowling finish their season at Emsleys Recreation Ground with a fixture against Relay Recruitment Rovers in a season in which they have won the Bradfford & District FA Sunday Cup for the first time in their history.
West Bowling narrowly failed to win the West Riding County FA Sunday Cup final for the third succesive year when a goal from Leeds Premier Division team Halton Moor seven minutes from the end of a thrilling end-to-end game at Woodlesford put them behind.
In the second half, Bowling were much the better team. A long clearance from the Halton Moor goalkeeper, who was voted man of the match, was not delt with by the Bradford team's defence and they went behind.
Bowling then threw caution to the wind and stormed the Halton Moor goal, only for the Leeds team to catch them on the break in the last minute to double their score.
